A well-chosen steel building starts with the right questions, asked before the first sketch. The building’s use shapes almost every technical decision: beam spans, clear height, cladding type and erection method.

1. Define the use and the workflow

Storage, production, workshop or logistics? Each has different requirements for height, overhead cranes, industrial doors and internal circulation. A clearly defined workflow avoids costly changes after erection.

2. Spans, heights and loads

  • Required clear span (column-free or with intermediate columns)
  • Clear height at eaves and ridge
  • Site-specific snow and wind loads
  • Suspended equipment: overhead cranes, pipework, ventilation systems

3. Cladding and insulation

Sandwich panels are the usual choice for heated buildings, and profiled sheeting for unheated storage. Insulation thickness depends on the building’s use and the project’s energy requirements.

4. Plan the erection from day one

Crane access, erection sequence and coordination with building services (ventilation, electrical, machinery) are set at design stage. This prevents crews overlapping and delays on site.

In short

The earlier the requirements are defined, the faster design, fabrication and erection go. Our team can handle structural erection and services coordination, based on an on-site survey; request a quote.
