A good quote comes from a good request. When all we receive is "how much is a steel staircase?", we can only give a very wide range. With the information below you get a real price, sooner, and no surprises at the end.

What to send us

Required:

  • Plans or drawings: PDF, DWG, DXF or the 3D model (STEP, IFC). If you do not have them, a sketch with dimensions and a few photos of the site.
  • Quantities: how many pieces, how many metres, how many floors.
  • The town or city where it will be installed.

Very helpful:

  • Material: S235 or S355 steel, 304 or 316 stainless steel, aluminium. If you are not sure, tell us where the part will be and we will recommend one.
  • Finish: galvanising, wet paint, powder coating, RAL colour.
  • The deadline by which you need the work.
  • Site access: floor, crane availability, working hours.
  • Required documents: EN 1090, material certificates, execution file.

What affects the price

Weight and material

For structures, the price is usually calculated per kilogram or per tonne. Stainless steel and aluminium cost more than carbon steel, and the price of steel changes often, so quotes are valid for a limited time.

Complexity

Two structures of the same weight can have very different prices. What counts is how many different parts there are, and how many welds, holes and bends. A structure with many small parts needs more labour than one made of a few large sections.

Finish

Blasting, galvanising and painting can make up a significant part of the cost. A paint system for an aggressive exterior costs more than a simple coat for an interior. See also the difference between powder coating and wet paint.

Installation

Height, access, the need for a crane or a lifting platform, and working hours change the cost of installation a lot. Installation in an occupied building or a working factory takes longer.

Transport and travel

For sites outside the city we add the transport of the parts and the crew's travel. We show the cost separately in the quote.

Documentation

Work with EN 1090 requirements, non-destructive testing or a full execution file needs extra time for documents and checks.

What our quote looks like

You receive a quote itemised by line: material and fabrication, finish, transport, installation. That way you can compare it properly with other quotes and decide what to keep and what to leave out.

We prepare quotes after a site survey, because measurements taken on site avoid surprises at installation. See how we work on the metal fabrication and steel structures page, and our other services.
